Wilder Ranch State Park

Mike and I have traveled down the California coast lots of times, but there is always something new to see. This weekend I went to Wilder Ranch State Park in Santa Cruz, CA. The park does not look like too much when you enter the parking lot (very flat), but 1/2 a mile down old cove landing trail, and you'll find you're consumed by nature. 1.5 miles in and you reach the curvy coast line, and Ohlone bluff trail. The terrain is generally flat, with little tree cover, but you'll have a gorgeous view. There are two beach coves that have somewhat safe paths to scale down the side of the cliff and play on a somewhat private beach, but you have to be careful of the tide. One of the beaches we made it down to turned out to have three very interesting caves to explore. And then there was the wild life: lots of birds, squirrels, and jackrabbits, but be cautious of mountain lions and bobcats, too. The trail is long and one way unless you make it 20 miles and then can cross some railroad tracks and follow them back to the parking lot. We ended up hiking/walking 12 miles total; the longest distance I've ever traveled on foot, although the beautiful views made it feel much less.

I love Santa Cruz! This sounds great! I don't know how you hiked all that way. I hope you took a big lunch.
