Johnsonville Brand Sausages

A friend and I were wandering through the grocery store one evening and we stumbled upon the topic of breakfast sausage and which brands were and were not safe. Not being a huge sausage connoisseur I was unsure of where Johnsonville Brand sausages fell. On the packages they did not say gluten free but on their website, under the ingredient section for each product they denote if a product is gluten free and/or dairy free. Turns out most of their products are safe.

In the breakfast department, all the links and patties are safe except the brown sugar and honey ones. In addition, all the Italian sausages/Brats are safe except the brat patties and the beer brats, and all smoked sausages are safe except the bold chili cheese and bold jalapeno and cheese sausages.

So in my opinion that means it's time for a pancake and sausage breakfast!

These definitely sound good. It has been a while since I have had one....your house I think.

The Johnsonville site no longer lists their products as gluten free, only dairy free where applicable. They may have changed the formula or processing which is not uncommon at the Johnsonville company.

Just got an update from Johnsonville! Not sure why they are not listed on the website as gluten free anymore, but here is what they emailed "In reference to your question, the majority of our products are made with gluten free ingredients. In fact, we only make two retail products that contain gluten as a result of the real beer used in our Beer 'n Bratwurst and Cooked Beer Brats. All other Johnsonville products are made with gluten free ingredients."

It seems like they are being cautious - they are not making a claim that the finished product has not been cross-contaminated in the manufacturing/packaging processes, since they do also use gluten-containing ingredients in some products. Hopefully, their GMPs and SSOPs are adequate to prevent cross-contamination.
