Fall Recipe: Blushing Apples

Looking for a yummy and healthy dessert? Try this out. After all, apples are in season.

2 pkg. (4-serving size each) Strawberry jello
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
4 cups water
4 medium apples
1/2 cup thawed cool whip

COMBINE jello and cinnamon in 4-qt. saucepan. Add water. Bring to boil, stirring frequently until all the jello is dissolved.

PEEL and core apples. Add to jello mixture in saucepan; partially cover saucepan with lid. Return to boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer 10 to 15 min (until apples are fork tender), gently turning apples every 5 min. Remove apples from liquid.

SERVE apples warm. Or, cool and store in tightly covered container in refrigerator at least 1 hour or overnight. Serve each apple topped with 2 Tbsp. of the whipped topping.

need to try this with pears. Do you think it would work? Do you peel them first?

I'd be careful not to cook the pears as long, but yeah it should work. Definitely peel them like you would the apples. And you can use any flavor jello you want.
