Mike and I entered both our Thick 'n Chunky Salsa and our Sweet 'n Spicy Sauce into the home canning competition at the state fair and guess what? We won first place in both the Salsa category and the condiment sauce category. Check out our website to learn more (or email us through the website for a complete product list as not everything is on the website yet). Their scoring system is slightly strange since there can be more than one winner per level, but hey we were only one notch away from best of show. They put all the winners into a display cabinet within the California Kitchen Building, so it's hard to get a good picture but we were there regardless.
It was nice of them to give us free tickets for winning a competition, yet we also got free media passes from a friend, which got us free parking as well! We checked out some of the exhibits, and my personal favorite was the furry animal exhibit, where we got to play with kitties, see baby chicks, lots of chickens and ducks, and a very stressed bunny.
We also sat in on a demonstration from a company rep selling waterless, grease-less pots, listened to a Mariachi band, and had a bit of a jumbo corn dog. They only sold corn dogs, so no cross contamination, and was told their corn batter was safe.
Anyhow, since we had extra tickets we gave them to a nice couple on our way out. We figured putting a good vibe out in the universe would come back to us in a positive nature.

Okay, so I read both your new blogs and your poll so here is my response to all: Wow and Congrats on winning the at the Fair! That is so great! And bonus on the prime location at the fair this weekend! What a fun thing the two of you can share together. Now about the wedding poll-the reason I say dress is because it is the one thing that you keep from your special day. For me it is as close to my heart as my wedding ring or my vows since it is what I wore to accept Preston as my spouse forever! Now I know that it will probably sit in my closet for the rest of my life and my daughters will tell me how outdated it is...but every once and awhile, while I am here alone, I sit and think about how special that dress made me feel on the most wonderful day of my life!
OK, I'm probably the weird one. The dress wasn't the biggest thing for me because you spend a LOT of money on something you will NEVER wear again. I thought ok location is important you will remember it always. But somehow, If its really really superb you will always say "god that was great food. It's is a meal I will never forget no matter WHAT you looked like. Excellent food is excellent food. Have you eve gone to a hole in the wall and had food just knock you into outer space? You never forget it. You will always say...remember when we went to....___________the food was fantastic...I will never forget it. So I think it's food first, it' like having a marriage of flavors melting in your mouth, it's decadent and satisfying and memorable....especially people like us (GF) who can't just run out and eat any old place.
Jamie....what if you have boys? They wouldn't look right in your wedding dress, you can't pass it down. Ok maybe a pair of special size 12 women's pumps might work with fish nets...but hummmmm I dont know.
As for Location...it was tough to pick..location or food. If you love someone it doesn't matter where you are just so long as you are together.
Olinda- I beg to differ...Ethan would look stunning in pumps and fish nets...LOL! I have to agree with your rationale for the food, very true, it is how people gauge a good party! Although, I didn't eat a single thing at my wedding so hmmm. The place is important for pictures sake, but really you two are so cute you would photograph well anywhere! Sorry, I guess I am not much help-I love everything about weddings!
